Fullview please! | Say hello to one of my favourite paintings so far! 
It’s an odd sensation for me to actually take pride in some of the work I’ve done. Usually I’m so down on myself and I know there are so many mistakes and errors in the stuff that I do – and there are plenty of those in this work – but I’m still really happy with how this one came out. I worked out the thumbnail months and months ago, and only finished the final painting about a month ago after working on it for a month on and off because the level of detail was driving me crazy.
Anyway, I loved messing with the purples and the turquoises in this one, as well as making everything all glowing and having a heap of different light sources of different intensity. Overall, it was challenging, exciting and satisfying to paint all these contrasting elements and throw strong colours and light all over the place – I’m a sucker for bright, deep and entrancing works that are saturated with life.
I also get a real kick out of painting night skies now, too. Making them all sparkly, misty, cloudy and space-like gives me such joy.
Also, can anyone pick the Kingdom Hearts inspiration for this? I think it’s kinda obvious though… the overhead rock arches and the moon and the water kinda scream Dark Margin… but obviously I’m creating a far more positive and uplifting fantasy atmosphere here.
